With summer right around the corner, many of us are guilty of neglecting our feet over the cold winter and rainy spring, locking them up in boots and wellies. Now the sun is out, it’s time to dig up those sandals and flip-flops and let our feet breathe.
Before you let your feet out, it is important you make sure they are presentable. So, no cracked soles and overgrown toenails!
Here’s how to get your feet ready for sandal season in a few simple steps:
Clip your toenails
Long toenails can appear unsightly, especially if they are not taken care of. Cut your toenails to a reasonable length, being careful to leave them even and with no sharp edges. You can file over them with an emery board after, just to make sure they are all smooth.
Soak feet in warm water
It is best to do this before bed. Get half a bucket of warm water and add some liquid soap to it. Soak your feet in it for about 20-30 minutes. This will loosen up dead skin cells and allow them to be easily scrubbed off.
Scrub off dead skin
Using a pumice stone or a foot brush, gently scrub your feet. Concentrate on the dry and hard areas of the feet. Do this carefully to avoid irritating the skin. When smooth skin has been revealed, rinse off the feet with clean water and pat dry with a towel.
Moisturize and heal
Moisturize the feet with petroleum jelly or foot cream to heal and soften the skin. We recommend Lush Fair Trade Foot Lotion; it is amazing at soothing tired, sore feet. Simply apply a generous amount all over your feet and put on a pair of clean socks. Go to bed to give your feet enough time to absorb the moisture.
Wake up to beautiful soft feet!
Follow these steps once a week to maintain healthy-looking, smooth feet through out the season.
