Liverpool turn out for Olympic Torch relay

Crowds lined the streets of Liverpool today as the Olympic torch relay made its way through the city.

University Square was treated to music from LSRadio and performances from 24 Festival Drums, BodySoc and LUDScribble, before the convoy made its way through campus.

Torchbearer Maggie Hayes, an English student and Vice President Elect at Liverpool Guild of Students, said that “words could not describe” the experience.

Professor Tom Solomon, from the University Institute of Infection and Global Health, also carried the flame.

Today the torch has traveled from Bolton, will take the ferry acrossto Birkenhead and return to the city for celebrations at Pier Head.

The torch will continue to travel around the UK with 8,000 torchbearers taking the flame for a mile each until the Olympic opening ceremony on July 27th.
