Ellie Simmonds claimed her fourth medal of her 2012 Paralympic games taking the silver in the S6 100 metres freestyle finishing behind American rival Victoria Arlen.
Following her opening gold in the 400m S6 freestyle, the 17 year old went on to claim another gold in the 200m individual medley SM6 as well as taking a bronze in the 50m free S6.
Simmonds swam a European record time for the final and broke her personal best by a second in a time of 1:14.82 but was unable on this occasion to finish ahead of the world record smashing Arlen at the Aquatics Centre. The American came into the final in bullish mood, having already equalled her previous world record in the heats and proved too big a challenge for Simmonds in the final.
However, despite not defending the second of the titles she won in Beijing 4 years ago, it can be another Games in which the 4 foot 1 swimmer to look back on with immense pride. The four medals she has won add to her already burgeoning career total and once more she provided great memories for herself and the nation to cherish.
