Somerset Maugham is one of the most popular British writers of the 20th century. Playwright, novelist and short story writer, his brilliance has always shone through and now the Liverpool Playhouse Theatre on Williamson Square will be hosting the English Touring Theatre as they prepare to showcase one of his finest works, The Sacred Flame.

Putting a twist on the classic murder mystery, The Sacred Flame is a part thriller, part love story that will be at the Liverpool Playhouse from Tuesday 16th to Saturday 20th October.

After their collaborative successes of ‘McGoughiere’ trilogy, The Hypochondriac, Tartuffe and the forthcoming The Misanthrope, the English Touring Theatre return to the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse with Somerset Maugham’s tense and graceful play, The Sacred Flame which promises to be a fascinating exploration of love, devotion and family.

The cast for The Sacred Flame includes Sarah Churm (The Ashes, Nottingham Playhouse; At Home with the Braithwaites, I.T.V), Jamie de Courcey (The Ashes, Nottingham Playhouse), David Ricardo Pearce (The Rover, Hampton Court Palace; The Big Fellah, Gaity Theatre, Dublin and The Lyric Hammersmith), Margot Leicester (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Bolton Octagon; Coriolanus, Shakespeare’s Globe), Beatriz Romilly (Doctor Faustus, Globe; The Three Musketeers, English Touring Theatre), Al Nedjari (War Horse, National Theatre), Katrina Innes (Lady M, Glasgow) and Robert Demeger (Woman in Black, West End and Tour).
