After the success of the 21st annual Africa Oyé Festival this summer, Oyé Touring and Trading are bringing another reggae treat to Liverpool this month.
Jamaican trio Mighty Diamonds will be landing in Liverpool on the 26th as part of their UK tour, on a mission to “entertain the crowds and spread a message of unity and love”.
Hailing from Trenchtown, Kingston, these roots reggae legends are one of Jamaica’s longest running vocal trios. Formed in 1969, lead vocalist Donald ‘Tabby’ Shaw, and harmony vocalists Fitzroy ‘Bunny’ Simpson and Lloyd ‘Judge’ Ferguson have produced over 40 albums during their lengthy career and continue to entertain and educate crowds worldwide.
Alongside their strong Rastafarian influence, Mighty Diamonds also take inspiration from Motown vocal groups of the 60s, listing The Temptations next to Jamaican rocksteady artists as influencers of their roots reggae sound.
Well known for their smooth harmonics and choreographed stage shows, the Mighty Diamond’s show at the Baltic Triangle’s District is not one to miss!
Supporting the trio are French reggae and dancehall duo HandCart Band and DJ sets from One a Penny Sound, one of Liverpool’s oldest sound systems, bringing a mix of ska and reggae, hip hop and house to what promises to be a great night of music.
LSMedia readers have the chance to win a pair of tickets to see the reggae legends play Liverpool! Simply tweet using the hash tag #LSMightyDiamonds to be entered into the draw. The competition will close Wednesday 23rd and the winner will be notified that evening.
