The Wombats are back! The Liverpool-born pop rock band have just released their first single of the forthcoming – still mysteriously unnamed – third album. ‘Your Body is a Weapon’ had its first play as Zane Lowe’s hottest record on Radio 1 last night, and is released today, October 2nd. (It was so good they played it twice).
Although having a relatively quiet summer of 2013 with regard to touring festivals, The Wombats returned to Tord’s hometown Elverum to headline Volumfestivalen in June, and then Slottsfjell the following month.
Now, they are back in the UK after playing Brazil – two shows in three days, true Wombat style – along with a great new song.
Leading up to its release, ‘Your Body is a Weapon’ has been utterly engulfed in hype – trailers, countdowns, Facebook hype, Twitter hype, Tumblr hype – it would be very hard not to know about this eagerly awaited comeback.
Perhaps this is not an immediate ‘wow!’ song, but ‘Your Body is a Weapon’ is a definite grower, and a quick one.
Combining elements of the band’s great debut album, A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation, with the second, This Modern Glitch, the single is a really brilliant track (with all the Wombat bits that make a Wombats song a Wombats song), leaving everyone hungry to hear the album, which is due early 2014.
