Unique. Unorthodox. Unprecedented. These are all words with ‘Un-‘ prefixes, they are also all words which come to mind when trying to describe London based duo Public Service Broadcasting. Their manifesto states they are on a quest to Inform – Educate (and most importantly) – Entertain.
Coincidentally, this is also the name of their critically acclaimed debut album which was released on 6 May 2013. Championed by a plethora of BBC Radio 6 Music DJs, they intelligently infuse samples of old public information films and archive footage with live electronic beats, guitars, banjo and drums.
Intrigued? Confused? As a concept this runs the risk of sounding like a BBC 4 documentary which has accidentally been recorded over an episode of ‘Later…with Jools Holland’, but instead the band yield an incredibly refreshing, original and creative sound.
Following gigs in London and Cardiff PSB arrive in Liverpool to play at the East Village Arts Club, formally The Masque. I personally cannot wait to see this band again after an awe inspiring performance in the William’s Green tent at Glastonbury this year.
Tickets are still available and I implore you not to miss out on this one.
