In a close race for Liverpool Guild President, Harry Anderson has emerged victorious.
A total of 4017 votes were cast – 18% of the student population. The turnout of voters is up by over 50% from last year’s 2660 votes.
14 candidates put themselves up for the four available positions.
The unforeseeable result was announced only a few minutes ago in the Courtyard of the Liverpool Guild. Harry Anderson returns as Guild President, with Alex Ferguson, Emma Sims, and Rosie O’Donnell emerging as the other SROs.
Alex Ferguson and Emma Sims are the current Vice Presidents. Rosie will be joining the team as the only newcomer this year.
Post Election Emotions
We had a chance to chat with some of the candidates and elected officers immediately after the results were announced.
Harry Anderson said “Last year I said I was speechless; I’m speechless again. To be elected again is the most humbling experience of my life.”
Alex Ferguson said “I feel absolutely fantastic. I was so unsure as it was really hard to know.”
Emma Sims was too overwhelmed to speak.
Rosie O’Donnell said “I am really excited to work with all the candidates to bring a positive change to the AU, the LMSS and partner with Independent Liverpool. I’m just really excited about this year.”
Alex Bjerkholt, one of the candidates, congratulated the winners, and said “it was nice running with them.”
This year’s election was one of the most hotly contested.
