Nineteen year old Samuel Frederick Donley, of York, appeared in York Magistrates Court this morning accused of the murder of twenty year old Liam Miller, a graphic design student at Liverpool John Moore’s University.

The incident took place in Hamilton Drive on Monday at 10.20 am. Mr Miller had returned home to York for the summer.

Samuel Frederick Donley is charged with the murder (by stabbing) of Mr Miller, and of the attempted murder of a 50-year old man, who tried to intervene, found in a nearby garden.

In a statement, Mr Miller’s family said “We cannot put into words the shock and disbelief we feel about what happened”

“Liam was just 20 and had his whole life ahead of him. We miss him more than words can say.”

Donley was arrested at the scene, and taken to hospital due to several self-inflicted knife wounds.

Donley will remain in custody until 4th August, when he will appear in Leeds Crown Court.
