University of Liverpool Jewish Society Statement:
“We were extremely disappointed that Liverpool Guild of Students have chosen to adopt a Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) policy despite it being defeated three times last year at Guild Summit.
“We are very proud that our campaign positively engaged and educated a large number of students on the conflict, yet we are severely concerned with the consequences of this decision. Whereas our campaign promoted dialogue, coexistence and peace, this decision is likely to discourage debate on the Israel/Palestine conflict, as well as marginalise Jewish and Israeli students.
“As the Jewish Society, we will continue to ensure the safety and welfare of Jewish students in Liverpool, and we will strive to promote coexistence and peace regardless of the policy of the Guild.”
