In honour of the BBC’s legendary Great British Bake Off the University of Liverpool baking society, Bake Soc, are hosting “The Great Guild Bake Off”. Bake Soc has decided that it’s time they found out who’s the best baker on campus! The event takes place over four rounds, each with a different briefs from pastry to the ultimate ‘showstopper’ finale.

Any student or member of staff at the university is welcome to enter and not only will you be enjoying a unique baking experience iced with some healthy (or not so healthy) competition. Entrance is £5 for bakers and £2 for tasters, all of which will go to the Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey, providing a place to stay for families whose children are receiving treatment – an undoubtedly amazing cause.

All you need to do is enter online then bake your creation to fit the brief and bring it in on the day to be in with the chance of being crowned ‘star baker’. The star baker from each week will gain a place in the Grand Finale which consists of a live baking competition, where the spectators and judges will go round and observe the contestants in true Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood style! According to Independent Liverpool, the guest judges include some of the best bakers in town.

You can choose to enter as many rounds as you like but if you don’t want to compete, would like to support a baker or even just have in on the fun, you can come along and sample the bakes for only £2. Here, you will have an active role in deciding who gets to be the star baker and a place in the final!

The Bake Off will be stationed on The Street in the Guild between 12pm-2pm for the first three rounds and 5pm-7pm for the fourth round. Tickets for the finale will be sold so make sure you don’t miss out. Also there are even prizes to be won…so what’s not to love? This could be the cherry on top of your week during this revision season!
