H&M was my favourite high street store of 2016. The quality you get for the bargain prices they offer never ceases to amaze me. High street stores are currently getting ready for the Spring/Summer period and I cannot wait to start hunting for those essential summer pieces! So, I thought I would share some of the gorgeous pieces I bought last year to give you a taste of what you can expect from the H&M style.
This shirt has been perfect for lazy days in the house, but throw on some boots with this outfit and you’ve got a casual and chic look. For other styling ideas, pair this shirt with leggings, a leather jacket, and boots, turning this shirt into an edgy piece. The grey cardigan is also from H&M and perfect for those cosy days in (as you can tell with the book in hand) as well as slipping under a coat for that extra layer of warmth. It also works well as a simple layering piece to add a different texture to the outfit, as seen in the image below.
Long shirts also add a bit of elegance to the casual girlfriend jeans.
The Mom jeans in the photo below were definitely well-worn throughout 2016. I wore them more in spring and summer as the cut outs on the knees were obviously too cold for the winter. However, you could throw on a pair of fishnet tights or regular tights of block colour to add an extra layer of warmth (it would also make the outfit more interesting and the jeans a piece to wear throughout the year). They work perfectly for wanting to look effortlessly stylish whilst shopping or grabbing a quick coffee. High heeled boots are a trend filtering through from 2016 into 2017 – they look fabulous with Mom jeans. Heels and Mom jeans also look AMAZING as seen in the image below. So, to make this look feel dressy for evening out, replace the boots for heels to add some sophistication.
These black skinny jeans have been the comfiest I have ever owned because of the stretchy material. They have not lost their shape after the countless times I have washed them and the colour has not faded – such a fabulous pair of jeans for only £15 (persuaded yet?). This jumper has also been my go-to for something comfy but also to make a smart outfit feel more casual. The dress in the picture below for example is sleeveless and would be perfect for an evening out with heels or high heeled boots. However the jumper, similar to the one above, turns that smart look into a casual day outfit.
This floral dress was a Christmas present and I absolutely love it. The bold colours enhance the detailing of the flowers, creating the illusion of a more intricate design. I wear this cardigan a lot because the length is perfect for many of the mid-length dresses I own. The material is fairly thick and soft, making it the perfect cardigan to wear in autumn and it’s not too thick to wear under a coat in the winter (perfect for taking the edge off the bitter cold weather).
My sister bought this dress and fortunately for me, decided she didn’t want it anymore (happily accepted by me). I styled the dress with a long sleeved top underneath as well as boots, making this a perfect outfit for the autumn. However, to turn this into a spring look, replace the boots for flats or trainers (converse would look fab) and the top with a t-shirt; a white boyfriend t-shirt would add some masculinity to this feminine dress and would also create a grunge and minimal aesthetic.
H&M is the perfect high street store for daily basics which can be dressed up or down. I always look for pieces which are versatile and the ones in this article definitely are.
I hope this encourages you to start shopping for your own essential H&M pieces – a must for every wardrobe!
