This year’s Welcome Week is the best one yet! I’m sure many of you have received your university packs filled with all the details of the parties and events to attend in your first week on campus. So, let’s have a look at everything that’s going on and dive into the seven days of utter madness.


This year’s Welcome Party is bigger and better with throwback tunes, glitter and cheap drinks. Festival vibes celebrating the end of the summer and the beginning of your university experience makes Mountford Hall the place to be. The event is free and you do not have to arrange travel if you live off-campus. Complimentary VIP buses will collect you right outside your halls and take you straight to the venue. But, if you fancy starting your night earlier then join everyone for the pre-party BBQ to enjoy a burger in the sun. Doors open at 6pm for the BBQ and 9pm for the Welcome Party.


Monday begins with a university campus tour which will help settle any pre-university fears about getting lost during your first few days. Tours take place on both Monday and Tuesday at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. All you have to do is just turn up 5 minutes before the tour starts at the Guild reception. There is also the opportunity to acclimatize to your new city better with a visit to Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral. Costing only £3, the trip starts at 12:30pm meeting at Guild reception.

The 00’s vs 90’s Party is all about Spice Girls, Busted, Britney, Backstreet Boys and other music wonders from the battling decades. There is no better way to start a welcome week then with a fancy dress party so make sure you wear your most creative outfit and prizes will be awarded to the most impressive and innovative designs. It will only cost you £5 if you pre-book or £6 on the door. Doors open at 10:30pm and close at 2am.


Lee Nelson is bringing his extremely popular tour to the students of Liverpool. Known for his hilarious pranks and crazy jokes, Lee Nelson promises to bring all the laughs and make your freshers week one to remember. Only costing £8 and £10 on the door you really don’t want to miss this one. Join us at Mountford Hall at 7pm to make you belly laugh and leave you smiling from ear to ear.


Its all about food on Wednesday afternoon at the Food Festival, serving up all the culinary delights Liverpool has to offer. From burgers to cakes to the best vegan food out there, you’d be silly to miss it. So, forget about budget buying and living off frozen pizzas for the day and indulge in all things food. All you need to do is bring some money and splash that cash on foodie goodies at Guild Walk and Mountford Hall. This runs all day between 12-7pm

Shiverpool is Liverpool’s award-winning theatrically led ghosts and history tour thats heading off on Wednesday night to scare freshers even more. The event only costs £10 and students are asked to meet at Guild reception at 6:30pm.


Everyone loves to show off their general knowledge and random facts and that’s exactly why you need to be at the Big Quiz. Bring along your flatmates to make the perfect team and perfect team name. A great opportunity to get to know your flatmates and fellow freshers even more in a chilled and friendly atmosphere. Taking place in Mountford Hall from 7pm, it’s only £2 on the door.

Joining societies is paramount whilst at university, so make sure to visit the Welcome Fair.

Make sure to visit the Welcome Fair to find out about all the societies, volunteer opportunities and student offers. The fair will be open from 10am – 4pm in Mountford Hall so get yourself down there to sign up and get in involved. The last day of the Welcome Fair is on from 10am – 4pm so if you didn’t get the chance to visit on the Thursday then you still have time. Later on join students in the Courtyard Bar for live music and some tasty drink offers. Along with the Coffee House Sessions there are pool tables and lots of great food to enjoy.


Take some chill time and get your strength back after all the partying by coming along to the outdoor cinema event. The movie will be the hit of the year The Greatest Showman, not to mention the pop-up bar. The fun doesn’t stop there, catch the undefeated Anthony Joshua take on Russia’s, Alexander Povetkin in a boxing match not to be missed. Coverage starts from 9pm in Mountford Hall.


For those lucky enough to have bought a ticket, there is no better way to end Welcome Week 2018 than to immerse yourself in the frenzy which is Bongo’s Bingo. A night of crazy prizes, rave music, and fresher dance moves.
