Johnny Lloyd: Review & Interview

Johnny Lloyd performed an incredible set at the O2 Academy Liverpool on November 30th. He got an insane gig supporting the Fratellis on their much anticipated Costello Music 10th anniversary tour. The O2 Academy Liverpool is a fairly intimate venue for the Fratellis, working perfectly for the tour. However, Johnny has been filling smaller venues on his headline tour this year. Nevertheless, Johnny had an incredible turnout – impressive considering these sized venues often feel embarrassingly empty for support acts, not giving them fair recognition. He managed to keep the large crowd lively throughout the whole of his set portraying...

Clean Cut Kid @ Arts Club

Support came from the talented, feisty and enigmatic Zuzu – also Liverpool born. The Arts Club was lively as soon as she hit the stage and the energy remained high throughout her set. The pop-rocker kept the audience jumping with her catchy hooks and laid back vibe; there was a frequent murmur of appreciation. Tracks to note included the upbeat and lyrically down to earth ‘Moving Back with Me Mum,’ and the recently released debut single ‘Get Off.’ Zuzu finished the set on a high with this punchy polished hit; check it out here. The excitement for Clean Cut...

Interview with Saw Doctors’ Leo Moran

The Saw Doctors have just finished their Scottish tour after their longest ever break and are preparing to hit the rest of the UK at the end of the month. Original band member, co-songwriter and legend Leo Moran, discusses the break and what is ahead for the Irish rock band from Tuam. A long hiatus appears to have done the Saw Doctors the world of good and it sounds as if they are going to be back with a bang. Although Leo stated this has been “hard on the ears,” – if a Saw Doctors interview started with no wit we’d all be worried – he is certain they are at the top of their game. “We have new band members, new instruments, new arrangements and a couple of new songs. It’s all very exciting and it’s improving exponentially every day and every night.” “We have more of an appetite now than we’ve ever had, and the fans have more of an appetite now than they’ve ever had for us. I think they’re all coming out to see us because they’re afraid they’ll never get to see us again.” This is undoubtedly true as after thirty years of touring they have sold the most advance tickets than ever before. Leo explains “you could never have predicted it; it would be very ambitious to predict it.” Yet the Saw Doctors have...

Review: We Are Scientists at Arts Club

The set begins with the dimming of lights and Lionel Ritchie’s ‘Hello’ booming through the speakers, setting the scene for a characteristically fun and witty gig from Keith and Chris. W.A.S are renowned for being an improvised comedy act whilst simultaneously smashing their classic and new hits. After every few songs the duo produces some unprepared hilarious dialogue; this notorious wit never fails to keep the crowd lively and entertained. Humour isn’t the only way W.A.S attract the audience throughout their set. Keith appears to love a bit of extra attention from his audience in the form of crowd surfing and Arts Club...
