American Alt-pop Band Lany: Review and Interview

Being the first support act for Ellie Goulding’s massive UK tour would be daunting for any artist; it is to Lany’s credit that they delivered a solid performance in the short time that they played (about 25 minutes). Starting bang-on 19:00, Lany opened to a relatively small crowd, though with a capacity of nearly 9,000 people the word ‘small’ is perhaps misleading. Lead singer Paul delivered a strong and energetic vocal performance, and the band seemed at ease playing in such a big venue. Lany accurately describe themselves as an alt-pop band, and their tracks Bad, Bad, Bad, ILYSB and new song WHERE THE...

Interview with new artist Tiggs Da Author

Hotly tipped for greatness this year, up-and-coming musician Tiggs Da Author has seen a recent surge in popularity thanks to his new song Run and its inclusion in FIFA 16. The rapper/singer supported Jess Glynne the O2 Apollo Manchester last week, and we at The Sphinx were fortunate enough to have a quick chat with Tiggs before his set started. The...

With the new year hype finally subsiding, now seems a good time to sit down, grab a brew, and reminisce/catch up on the best albums that emerged in 2015. Part 2 includes the 10 best albums released in the last 4 months of the year, and you can remind yourselves of Part 1 here. Side note: Adele may well have made the list had she released 25 on Spotify, but unfortunately in her wisdom she decided to refrain from including it; and the fact that I can’t afford to pay £10.99 for the album (being a poor student) means I have yet...

Top 10 Albums of 2015: Part 1

It’s only the start of 2016 and yet 2015 already seems like a distant memory. With plenty of albums to look forward to this year (Rihanna, The 1975 and The XX, to name but a few), it seems fitting to look back at 2015 and remind ourselves of the truly fantastic albums that the year gave us. I have made the executive decision to release the article in 2 parts (because I can), with part 1 featuring albums that were released in the first 8 months of the year. 10. The Weeknd – Beauty Behind the Madness. Released 28th August. Canadian...
